Making The Lining:

https://photovisions.ca/fi4duvb8yf Using your crocheted granny squares as the pencil case pattern, fold a piece of fabric in half and cut out a doubled piece of lining with about a ¼ of an inch space all the way around as seam allowance.
Put in zipper and sew the lining shut. Turn lining right side out and carefully pin the granny square pieces to the top, making sure to line up the top and bottom on the front and back sections for your free pencil case. Hand sew around, making sure not to sew the zipper shut and leaving extra space on the top with the 3 rows of HDC to be able to crochet in.

Making the crochet “grommets”

go here With color #3 (Or color #1 if making the 3 color version) attach yarn to the top right of your pencil pouch. Using 2 threads of the same color for doubled thickness, CH 2, and work 1 HDC in each space across.

https://www.jacobysaustin.com/2024/05/qhzrqbokaa CH 2, turn, work 1 HDC in each of the next 3 spaces, CH 2, skip next 2 spaces.

enter Fold your pencil case in half to determine where the center of your project is, and work HDC across until you reach that point. Do not crochet in the 2 spaces in the center, simply CH 2, skip those 2 spaces, and keep crocheting until you are 7 spaces from the end. CH 2, skip 2 spaces, and work 1 HDC in each of the next 4 spaces.

https://annmorrislighting.com/c9w3zhd CH 2, turn, and work 1 HDC in each space across. Cut tie off and hide threads.
Congratulations you did it, you reached the finish line! I’d love to see if what your project turned out like, so please join me on facebook and share a picture of your finished pencil case.
What ways do you save money on back to school expenses? I have three kids, and it feels like prices go up every year, so I’d love to hear how you tackle this challenge 🙂
